Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) operates 502 water and wastewater facilities across Ontario—producing over 700 million liters of drinking water and treating about 1.2 billion liters of wastewater daily—and faced the challenge of delivering consistent, highly regulated service across a vast geography with fewer staff. OCWA selected AVEVA software (including AVEVA System Platform, AVEVA InTouch HMI, AVEVA Historian and associated tools) to enhance its Outpost 5 SCADA foundation, improve standardization, scalability and regulatory reporting.

AVEVA’s solution provided template-driven, wide-area SCADA, historian store-and-forward and web-based access, enabling faster rollouts and better remote maintenance; large plants that once took months to commission can now be brought online in days, new deployments dropped from 6–12 months to about three months with one person, and adding customers is now measured in hours rather than days. AVEVA’s Historian also eliminated data loss and delivered real-time reports for regulatory compliance, increasing location support without adding staff and improving operational efficiency and compliance visibility.
