Merging the plant and the classroom with AVEVA and Schneider Electric

Oulu Mining School faced a gap between classroom theory and the practical skills needed for modern mining, leaving graduates unprepared for real-world processes. To bridge this, the school partnered with AVEVA (alongside Schneider Electric) to deploy industry software — notably AVEVA’s DYNSIM dynamic simulation and advanced process control tools — on its pilot-scale concentration plant so students could learn with the same tools used by major mining operators.

AVEVA’s solution integrated simulation and control tools into a fully functional mini pilot plant that mirrors full‑scale operations, allowing students to simulate processes before running them and to practice on identical workflows. The result: students gain hands‑on, industry‑standard experience, graduates are better prepared to enter and innovate in the mining workforce, and the program now directly links classroom theory to real operational practice.
