A AVEVA Case Study
Italpresse Gauss, an Italian OEM that builds light-alloy casting machines for the automotive industry, needed to modernize its products for Industry 4.0 by creating a custom, open HMI that could interoperate with other OEM devices and by incorporating AR/VR for asset performance and remote support. Facing a traditional foundry environment and an aggressive timeline, Italpresse Gauss partnered with AVEVA and used AVEVA’s System Platform, InTouch HMI and AR/VR platform to pursue those goals.
Using AVEVA’s technologies, Italpresse Gauss developed HMe (an open-interface HMI that logs data to a local SQL server, reduces operator complexity and improves situational awareness) and AMe (an AR/VR digital-twin app for remote maintenance, training and live support via tablet or HoloLens). AVEVA’s solution was embedded in more than 200 presses in under three years, delivered virtual remote support and troubleshooting, improved asset performance workflows, and opened new revenue streams by turning monitoring and maintenance into service offerings.
