Invensys Solution Manages Flow of Goods at Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Container Terminals at the Port of Hamburg

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) needed to modernize operations at its Burchardkai container terminal to double throughput, increase stacking from three to five stories, and restructure power and lighting to support 24/7 operations. Lacking centralized control and relying on manual meter readings, HHLA selected AVEVA, deploying Wonderware System Platform and InTouch HMI (including InTouch HMI for Terminal Services) to upgrade its facility management and automation capabilities.

AVEVA implemented a centralized, object‑oriented SCADA/HMI and MES solution integrated with existing Siemens SIMATIC controllers and ProfiBus DP, providing remote visualization, automated energy and lighting control, and template‑based application updates. The AVEVA solution connected 60+ operators, reduced reliance on manual meter recording, enabled HHLA to scale toward its goal of doubling Burchardkai’s capacity with five‑high stacking, and delivered measurable savings through standardized, modular architecture that simplifies upgrades and replication across other terminals.
