IHB ShipDesign Increases Efficiency to Build Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS) Retrofit Business with AVEVA E3D and Laser Scanning

IHB ShipDesign AD, a Bulgarian shipbuilding design firm specializing in retrofits and ballast water treatment system (BWTS) installations, was losing business because vessel drawings and CAD models were often unreliable and retrofit design took too long. To increase efficiency and competitiveness, IHB turned to AVEVA, building on its use of AVEVA Marine/AVEVA Outfitting and adopting AVEVA E3D (Everything3D) alongside 3D laser scanning solutions.

AVEVA implemented AVEVA E3D, Marine Suite tools and laser-scanning workflows to capture accurate “as‑is” vessel data directly into a unified 3D environment, enabling concurrent engineering and automated parts lists. The AVEVA setup and POC took under two months, and modeling/design time fell by about 15–20% (overall design time reduced up to 20%), reducing rework, lowering commercial risk and allowing IHB ShipDesign AD to scale and win more BWTS retrofit projects.
