A AVEVA Case Study
Vaasan Vesi, the City of Vaasa’s water and wastewater utility in Finland, needed to modernize its automation and control systems to support a growing, sustainability-focused municipality while ensuring continuous service and easy maintenance. Vaasan Vesi engaged AVEVA (using Wonderware InTouch HMI, Wonderware System Platform and Wonderware Historian) to replace legacy controls with a PC-based, PLC-driven architecture that would provide high availability, decentralized monitoring and robust reporting without any service interruptions during the upgrade.
AVEVA’s Wonderware-based solution was deployed over an Ethernet and fiber network with seven PLC process stations, distributed substations, mobile workstations and SMS alarm integration, providing real-time visualization, historian-based reporting and secure remote access. The upgrade was completed ahead of schedule (in eight months) with no shutdowns and no customer complaints during rollout; management gained reliable, easy-to-expand control, improved data backup and security, and faster field operations thanks to AVEVA’s system.
