Castle Peak Power Station achieves optimal performance with help from Invensys Operations Management

Castle Peak Power, Hong Kong’s largest coal-fired station supplying power to more than two million customers, faced an aging boiler control system that threatened continued performance and spares availability. To modernize without disrupting operations, Castle Peak Power engaged AVEVA to implement a modern distributed control solution, using the Foxboro I/A Series Distributed Control System together with Wonderware InTouch HMI software.

AVEVA installed four DCS networks (one per unit), a new supervisor monitoring station and large‑screen unit control panels, enabling tighter control of superheater temperature and pressure, drum levels, furnace pressure and excess oxygen. The retrofit was completed on schedule with zero hardware failures and zero SHE incidents; all major loops were in auto within two weeks and the first unit was refurbished 12 months after contract award. As a result, AVEVA’s solution reduced maintenance, cut operator manual intervention, supported continuous performance improvement and helped Castle Peak Power maintain reliable service while improving thermal efficiency and startup energy costs.
