A AVEVA Case Study
Cascades Tissue Group, a long-established North American tissue manufacturer, faced aging control systems at its Eau Claire mill that threatened product consistency and competitiveness. To reduce variability in basis weight and moisture, automate controls, and increase uptime and capacity utilization, Cascades engaged AVEVA, deploying modern control technologies including Foxboro I/A Series Distributed Control System and Wonderware InTouch HMI.
AVEVA implemented a fault-tolerant Foxboro I/A Series DCS with HMI workstations, Fieldbus I/O and Ethernet networking, enabling multivariable expert adaptive control, centralized equipment protection, better trending and self-diagnostics. The upgrade reduced the standard deviation of basis weight and moisture, cut parent-web breakage, increased uptime and overall capacity utilization, and lowered maintenance and energy costs—delivering measurable improvements in product quality and operational efficiency.
