Carson City Public Works Leverages Smart City Technology

Carson City Public Works needed to efficiently manage water, wastewater, transportation, landfill, fleet, environmental and renewable power services for a city of more than 50,000 residents while reducing administration, improving disaster recovery, and increasing staff mobility. To meet these challenges, Carson City Public Works turned to AVEVA, building on its SCADA deployment with AVEVA InTouch HMI and implementing AVEVA Mobile Reporting with SmartGlance on AVEVA System Platform to enable remote monitoring via iPads and smartphones.

AVEVA deployed mobile reporting, historian integration and virtualization so field teams can access KPIs and reports in real time, increasing situational awareness and operational readiness. As a result of AVEVA’s solution, Carson City Public Works realized a 15% reduction in operations staff hours (reduced drive time), moved to four 10‑hour workdays from five 8‑hour days, lowered overhead, and now manages solar plants producing up to 748,000 kWh/year while delivering over 22 million gallons of water and processing 6.9 million gallons of wastewater daily.
