Black Rock Mine Operations - Customer Case Study

Black Rock Mine Operations, part of Assmang, operates three separate mineshafts in the Northern Cape, South Africa, and faced a highly fragmented, decentralized control environment with legacy systems and misaligned MES and operational systems that hindered cross-site collaboration and a holistic view of the value chain. To address these challenges, Black Rock engaged AVEVA, deploying System Platform, Operations Management Interface (OMI) and Historian to centralize operations and improve situational awareness.

AVEVA implemented a Central Control Room with a 10‑meter video wall and integrated its System Platform, OMI and Historian to consolidate data across the three shafts and the wider value chain. The AVEVA solution produced measurable results: some data sources improved more than five-fold, in‑shift reporting increased from under 50% to a sustained 90%, uptime and safety improved, and overall productivity grew by nearly double digits.
