Aveva Software Solutions Help Water Commission For China’s Yellow River Reduce Engineering Time, Cost And Effort

The Yellow River Conservancy Commission, an agency of China’s Ministry of Water Resources that manages the Yellow River supplying water to about 100 million people across nine provinces, needed a large-scale distributed operating system — a central database, real-time information transfer and processing, and decision support — spanning hundreds to thousands of kilometers of river infrastructure. To address this, the Commission selected AVEVA and deployed AVEVA System Platform along with AVEVA InTouch HMI, AVEVA Historian software, Historian Clients and Device Integration Servers.

AVEVA delivered an object-based HMI/SCADA solution that enabled rapid, reusable deployments (first phase: 43 sluice stations and four management levels completed in three months), centralized real‑time monitoring, secure web-based reporting and remote control of sluices. The AVEVA implementation reduced engineering time, cost and maintenance effort, improved drought and flood forecasting and response, prevented flow stoppages, and now supports effective water regulation for roughly 100 million people across nine provinces.
