Case Study: OKG halves reactor outage time to under 80 days with AVEVA Everything3D

A AVEVA Case Study

AVEVA Everything3D allowed one of Sweden’s nuclear plants to stay up and running more profitably while keeping their reactors safe

OKG, the Swedish nuclear plant operator, faced a safety-critical modernisation challenge: replacing thousands of electrical cables and penetration assemblies inside reactor containments where a day-long outage costs about €1 million. To improve efficiency and reduce costly downtime, OKG worked with AVEVA and adopted AVEVA PDMS, AVEVA Everything3D (AVEVA E3D) and the AVEVA Laser Model Interface (including BubbleView technology) to combine photorealistic laser scans with 3D design.

AVEVA’s solution—laser scanning the containment, building an integrated 3D model in AVEVA PDMS/E3D, prefabricating cables off-site and delivering photorealistic installation views on tablets—streamlined fabrication and installation. The approach cut outage time from about 120–150 days down to below 80 days, supported the installation of 1,800 cables (30,000 m) and produced thousands of installation prints, demonstrating AVEVA’s measurable impact on safety, speed and cost.
