Astron Energy Transforms Crude Assay Management Process and Reduces Assay Creation Time by 50%

Astron Energy, operator of the Cape Town Refinery, needed to take over crude assay management and related data services previously provided by Chevron so it could operate as an independent refiner without disrupting production. Facing daily costs of $10,000–$15,000 from inaccurate crude characterization and limited internal assay capacity, Astron sought a predictive, collaborative platform and chose AVEVA’s AVEVA Unified Supply Chain (cloud-hosted) to modernize assay workflows, blend analysis, and data sharing.

AVEVA implemented AVEVA Unified Supply Chain in the cloud and rolled out predictive modelling, blend analysis, automated workflows and integrations across planners, engineers and traders in about three months. The AVEVA solution cut assay creation time by more than 50%, enabled accurate tank-blend predictions that improved refinery margin, and reduced IT overhead through AVEVA’s hosted cloud deployment and faster software updates.
