West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, a regional public safety authority in the UK, deployed Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for collaboration and document management but found native tools (STSADM/SQL backups) didn’t protect all platform components or allow fast, granular restores. Administrators needed a comprehensive backup strategy, the ability to restore individual sites and documents (including metadata), and a solution to support an organisation-wide log‑in renaming project while meeting strict SLAs.
The service implemented AvePoint’s DocAve Data Protection Suite (backup/restore, high availability, SiteBin) and later added DocAve Administration, Report Center and Auditor modules. DocAve’s flexible scheduling, Business Criticality Matrix and graphical Time Restore Controller enabled granular restores of My Sites and metadata, cut weeks from the renaming effort, ensured full-platform protection, improved governance, and delivered strong vendor support.
