Walls Construction Reduces Microsoft® SQL Server® Content Database Storage By 90% And Saves €31,000 With DocAve®

Walls Construction, a leading Irish construction firm using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, faced a mounting content-management problem as project files, photos and blueprints grew to about 700 GB. With a single web front end and one SQL Server, the company needed to archive stale content to cheaper storage, move and reorganize files within SharePoint without manual downloads, and implement granular, reliable backups — all while preserving access and metadata.

By deploying AvePoint DocAve (Archiver, Content Manager and Backup & Restore), Walls offloaded more than 600 GB to lower‑cost storage, shrinking its SQL Server content database by 90% and keeping it to one‑tenth of total data. The solution preserved full fidelity and user access, enabled seamless content moves and granular restores to NAS (eliminating tape), and avoided extra SQL servers — delivering roughly €31,000 in total savings.
