The University of Florida consolidated 14 separate college and department SharePoint environments into a central SharePoint Server 2010 deployment, which exposed major challenges: complex, error-prone permissions management, unchecked growth of SharePoint content in SQL databases hurting performance and scalability, and inadequate native backup/restore tools that lacked granularity and speed.
