Seiko Epson Corporation Migrates from eRoom to SharePoint, Performs Granular Backup of Critical Data, and Automates Content Lifecycle Management with DocAve

Seiko Epson Corporation, a global imaging and innovation leader with nearly 75,000 employees, needed to consolidate a fragmented document environment—Lotus Notes, EMC Documentum eRoom, and file servers—into a secure, cost-effective platform for some 30,000 end-users. Key challenges included an expedited migration of 300 GB from eRoom to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, granular backup and rapid restore (including Nintex Workflow sites), and automated lifecycle management to remove obsolete content without manual effort.

Epson implemented the full DocAve software platform to address migration, backup/restore, and content lifecycle needs. DocAve Migrator automated a permissions-preserving migration, DocAve Backup & Restore enabled granular backups and quick recovery, and DocAve Content Manager enforced retention rules (e.g., renaming and discarding non-product sites after five years). The result was a successful 300 GB migration, simplified administration and licensing, improved data protection and recovery, and a plan to expand use of Auditor and File Share Connector to further streamline governance.
