A AvePoint Case Study
Queensland University of Technology (QUT), a Brisbane-based university with about 40,000 students, needed to consolidate nine disparate SharePoint environments—roughly 250 GB of content—into a single MOSS 2007 deployment. Native SharePoint migration tools couldn’t reliably preserve critical metadata (version histories, user/time stamps, security) or restructure subsites into new top-level hierarchies, and doing the work manually or with custom scripts would have been slow, error-prone, and resource intensive.
QUT deployed AvePoint’s DocAve Content Manager to perform full-fidelity, point-and-click reorganisations, using graphical user/domain mapping to preserve all metadata while moving content and promoting subsites as needed; two administrators completed the work with strong weekend/overnight vendor support. The project finished with minimal disruption, improved user adoption and collaboration, about 1,095 active users regularly leveraging SharePoint, and the university is now evaluating additional DocAve modules to support ongoing governance.
