The Port of Seattle, which supports international trade, transportation and local industries, relied on a 2 TB Microsoft SharePoint 2010 environment used by over 2,000 staff for intranet, collaboration and records management. When SharePoint’s native backup could not meet the port’s 24‑hour Recovery Time Objective—requiring full database restores that took up to two days to retrieve a single document—the organization needed a faster, easier way to recover content and manage user permissions.

The port deployed AvePoint’s DocAve Backup and Restore and DocAve Administrator, enabling granular, item-level restores in about 30 minutes (a 99% reduction in recovery time) and allowing removal of departed users’ permissions in minutes rather than days. The solution met the RTO, centralized SharePoint management, improved operational efficiency, and positioned the port to expand its SharePoint capabilities with additional DocAve products.
