Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, which supports around 2,500 daily SharePoint users, relied on SharePoint as a central document repository but struggled with slow, database-level restores and inefficient backups. Restoring single items could take up to half a day, generating 90% of support calls, and the IT team also faced the imminent need to migrate 1.5 TB from SharePoint 2007 to 2013 while preserving metadata and minimising disruption.
The council implemented AvePoint’s DocAve platform (Backup and Restore, Content Manager, and Migrator) to enable granular item restores, scheduled full and incremental backups, and staged, full‑fidelity migrations. Results included item-level recoveries in about five minutes (98% faster than the previous tool), reduced backup storage through incremental backups, a single management console, and the ability to perform a flexible, metadata-preserving migration of the 1.5 TB of content.
