A AvePoint Case Study
CMC Biologics, a contract biopharmaceutical manufacturer, wanted to move collaboration and its intranet to Microsoft SharePoint 2010 but faced a major hurdle: roughly 300 GB of existing file-share data and the inability to recover individual deleted files without performing a full SharePoint content-database restore that could take more than eight hours. To avoid business disruption and speed up recovery, the IT team sought a third-party solution that would let users access file-share content through SharePoint while preserving the file system’s granular restore capabilities.
They implemented AvePoint DocAve Connector to surface file-share content in SharePoint without migrating it into the platform’s content database, and created 20 customized libraries to ease adoption. End users collaborate through SharePoint while files remain on the file system, enabling administrators to use granular restores to return deleted files within about 15 minutes instead of a multi-hour database restore—dramatically cutting recovery time and smoothing the SharePoint rollout.
