The customer, Klarna, a major European bank, faced the challenge of building a high-performance on-site messaging platform to promote its payment options on merchant websites. They needed to ensure optimal performance under heavy traffic, deliver a personalized and consistent user experience, and guarantee compatibility across all sites. To address this, Klarna partnered with vendor Avenga to develop the Klarna On-Site Messaging platform.

Avenga deployed a solution using Amazon Web Services (AWS), incorporating auto-scaling and multi-layer caching to handle immense load. They implemented session-level caching and a JSON-RPC setup for the frontend to ensure seamless integration. The results were a platform capable of handling over 100 million user profiles and 20,000 queries per second, rendering personalized messages in under 50ms while significantly reducing network traffic and ensuring consistent messaging.
