XL Catlin, one of the world’s largest insurance companies, partnered with Avanade to explore how emerging technologies such as AR, VR, drones and IoT could transform underwriting and customer service. The key challenge was to move beyond pilot curiosity to practical business value—streamlining a highly manual, time-consuming risk assessment process without overburdening internal teams.

Avanade’s Advisory Services used human‑centric design, agile methods and a cross‑functional studio approach to build an AR risk‑assessment prototype in seven weeks. Using a 3D headset (voice dictation, gestures and camera), the solution cut report turnaround from up to four weeks to a few days, reduced risk and cost, and demonstrated a fast, repeatable way for the enterprise to test disruptive technologies.
