Westfriesgasthuis, a general hospital in Hoorn, faced a fragmented ICT landscape with many specialised applications, high licensing and management overhead, and hospital-specific logistics that standard ERP packages didn’t address easily. Management set out to simplify and standardise administrative processes on a single platform that would reduce cost, complexity and customisation effort.

After an evaluation the hospital selected Avanade ERP for Healthcare Providers on Microsoft Dynamics AX and implemented it in nine months, training 250 users and making only two targeted customisations (VAT handling and an H7 HIS link). The system went live on schedule, 75% of users started immediately, and the hospital gained tighter integration between purchasing and finance, better BI and Office interoperability, fewer applications/licenses to manage, and plans to extend HR and technical services to the ERP platform.
