UPM, a company refocusing its strategy as a sustainability-driven "Biofore" business, needed better ways for employees to share information and collaborate after finding its end-user technology old and fragmented. To support the new strategic direction and drive more efficient working, UPM decided to implement a unified, Microsoft-based platform across the organization.
Partnering with Accenture and Avanade, UPM rolled out more than 13,000 Windows 7/Office 2010 workstations, built two customer sites and ~30 intranets on SharePoint 2010, deployed Outlook, Communicator and Lync via Microsoft Cloud Services, and implemented SharePoint collaboration sites—backed by joint governance, extensive change management and training for 24,000 employees in eight languages. The 16-month program finished on time and under budget with minimal disruption (workstation exchanges averaged under 45 minutes), delivering a modern, unified platform that makes it easier to find and share information and supports UPM’s strategic goals.
