RET, the public-transport operator in the Rotterdam region serving about 190 million passengers a year with 2,700 employees and roughly 500 vehicles, was struggling with an outdated on‑premises Microsoft Exchange environment. Limited archive space, no email/diary access for many operational staff, and reliance on paper communications left employees poorly informed and prompted RET to consider whether to replace costly in‑house servers or move to the cloud.
RET chose Microsoft Office 365 for its security, value and ease of use and worked with Avanade to migrate users with minimal disruption. The move delivered much larger email archives, inclusive access for office and operational staff (including kiosk accounts and tablets for hundreds of metro employees), better knowledge sharing and collaboration via chat and video, reduced paper workflows, and a modern, highly available communication platform.
