Origin Digital wanted to increase video transcoding throughput without adding capital expense. To gain dynamic scalability while staying in a familiar development environment, the company worked with Avanade (alongside Accenture and Microsoft) to explore cloud architectures and build a cloud-native transcoding service.

They developed and deployed "Cloudcoder" on the Microsoft Azure platform as a hosted service, after evaluating Azure and AWS. The solution delivered real-time scalability, reduced compute and database administration costs (in some workflows cutting compute costs by about half), shortened time-to-market, and made expansion into new geographic markets easier.
