ICA, Sweden’s largest retailer (founded 1938 with around 77,702 MSEK in annual sales and 2,400 stores) was running on Lotus Notes for email and messaging, a system that was costly, increasingly unreliable and lacked modern features like mobile compatibility and screen sharing. To modernize communications and boost productivity, ICA partnered with Microsoft and Avanade to migrate to Office 365.

Avanade ran a one‑month pilot for 600 users, then migrated roughly 19,000 mailboxes (over 10 TB) at a velocity of 4,000+ users per week, completing full deployment three months after the pilot—one of the fastest Lotus Notes-to-Office 365 migrations. The move delivered improved file sharing, IM, web meetings and screen sharing, reduced downtime and costs, and increased internal communication and productivity, with ICA now planning to expand Office 365 capabilities.
