Many Rivers Microfinance Limited (Many Rivers) is a not-for-profit that helps aspiring business owners start and grow microenterprises by providing business planning support, field officers and microfinance. By 31 December 2013 it had supported 429 businesses (376 new, 53 expanding) and 501 business owners with $2.5m in loans; many clients face financial and social exclusion, live in remote areas and had to navigate a highly manual loan process. With plans to expand Field Officers from 14 to 40, Many Rivers needed a secure, centralised client data repository with offline capabilities, standardized data and automated workflows to scale operations and measure long‑term social and economic impact.
Avanade and Accenture implemented “Compass,” a Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 and SharePoint 2013 solution, to create a single source of truth and capture the full client journey. Compass delivers offline data access and synchronization, automated and pre‑populated loan documentation, workflow automation, real‑time reporting and an embedded evaluative framework for outcome measurement — reducing field officers’ admin time, improving data quality and funder reporting, and enabling staff to spend more time supporting microbusinesses in remote communities.
