Large healthcare system extends cancer case reviews to three times more patients

A large U.S. healthcare system needed to improve its multidisciplinary tumor board process: doctors and nurses across radiology, oncology, surgery and pathology struggled to attend in-person case reviews because of demanding schedules, limiting collaboration and timely treatment decisions. Seeking a way to let clinicians contribute remotely using tools they already had, the organization engaged Avanade to design a virtual tumor board.

Avanade prototyped and deployed a digital collaboration platform using Microsoft Teams, OneNote, SharePoint and Power BI, trained staff and launched a lung-cancer pilot across three hospitals. The virtual board enabled anytime, any-device participation, tripled the number of patients reviewed, accelerated diagnosis and treatment, improved documentation and reporting, and is being considered for wider roll-out.
