Fidelity Information Services Creates Leading-Edge Loan Origination Platform

Fidelity Information Services (FIS), a global provider of financial software and IT services, needed to modernize its acquired Empower! loan origination platform, which was built in Borland Delphi with proprietary scripting. The aging, client‑server architecture limited web access, developer adoption, and integration with legacy mainframe and AS/400 systems—blocking FIS’s goal of winning the top‑25 mortgage lenders while lowering total cost of ownership and increasing product flexibility.

FIS partnered with Avanade to redevelop Empower! on the Microsoft .NET Framework using Visual C# and the ACA.NET asset, implementing a service‑oriented architecture that exposes business functions via XML/SOAP and supports web, smart‑client, and enterprise services. The project sped development, built in‑house .NET expertise, enabled mainframe/AS/400 integration, and produced an enterprise‑grade, customizable LOS that improves interoperability, developer productivity, and market readiness for large mortgage and banking customers.
