A European public health provider serving more than two million people needed an innovative, cost‑effective way to monitor and treat a growing population of chronically ill patients as life expectancy rose. The goal was to replace routine hospital visits with virtual, systematic “telecare” to improve quality of life, increase patient security, enable early issue detection, and reduce intervention and hospitalization costs.

Accenture and Avanade developed the Microsoft Kinect Telecare (TeKi) solution — a gesture‑controlled interface with facial and voice recognition that connects to medical devices, supports videoconferencing, voice/text messaging, daily clinical data collection and questionnaires, and uses 3D movement tracking for exercise guidance. Integrated with the provider’s chronic‑care platform and a clinician management console, the system gives healthcare teams daily remote access to assess and educate patients, trigger alerts and alarms, respond to emergencies, and improve engagement while reducing hospital admissions.
