Avanade Improves Customer Service for Swedish Retailer

Systembolaget, Sweden’s state-run alcohol retailer with 410 stores and a 3,000‑brand assortment, needed to replace an aging bespoke point-of-sale system that was hard to maintain, didn’t support chip-and-pin payments and provided only basic, unfriendly ordering for products not stocked in a given store. The retailer wanted a more user-friendly, e-commerce‑style in‑store ordering experience without adding IT complexity.

Avanade delivered a new in‑store online ordering and search solution integrated with Systembolaget’s ERP and POS, built on standard Microsoft technologies (.NET, SQL Server 2005, WCF). The rollout was rapid and resulted in better customer service, lower support and maintenance costs, easier future upgrades, and stronger systems integration.
