Avanade Helps World-Renowned Cancer Center Improve Patient Care

M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, a world-renowned cancer hospital, needed a way to give clinicians complete, up‑to‑date patient records despite complex workflows and tightly coupled research and clinical data. Commercial EMR packages couldn’t integrate the center’s many specialized systems or support evolving research-driven care, so the organization sought a scalable, secure solution that could aggregate data from dozens of disparate applications and support a larger development team.

Avanade partnered with M. D. Anderson to reengineer ClinicStation on a Microsoft .NET service‑oriented architecture, wrapping more than 40 back‑end systems as web services into a virtual repository. The result is a single EMR used by thousands of clinicians that delivers real‑time data (about 125 million service calls/month), boosted physician productivity, enabled remote collaboration, reduced workflow costs, and provided a scalable, secure platform and in‑house development capability for ongoing growth.
