Biomedical Research Alliance of New York (BRANY) provides services to support clinical trials and research compliance. After acquiring online education and consulting businesses, BRANY rapidly expanded from one sales tax registration to 28 states, creating complex, state‑specific taxability challenges that their in‑house systems and staffing couldn’t reliably manage.

BRANY implemented Avalara AvaTax, integrating it with QuickBooks Desktop and their custom ecommerce platform, and worked with Avalara to map services to each state’s rules. The result was streamlined, accurate tax calculations, easier compliance and reporting, reduced staffing burden, and the confidence to continue growing into new states and services.
