Using software to refine the process of steel manufacture

Tata Steel, one of the world’s largest steel producers, needed to keep 24/7 operations running with as little downtime as possible while managing highly autonomous production units and frequent changes to control programs. To support its maintenance teams, Tata Steel used AUVESY-MDT’s versiondog software for change management and version control, helping ensure that the latest version of each project was always known and documented.

AUVESY-MDT implemented versiondog across Tata Steel’s production lines to centralize backups, track changes, manage access rights, and support both automatic and manual backup routines. The result was better clarity, faster recovery, and more proactive maintenance; around 3,000 components are managed by about 200 users, with roughly 150 backups of critical equipment made each day. Tata Steel reported that the main goal of reducing downtime had been achieved, alongside improved workflow, stronger teamwork, and greater confidence in plant status.
