Andreas Stihl AG Co. KG, a global manufacturer of chain saws and power tools, needed a better way to manage production data across its plants as backups moved from floppy disks to USB sticks and the risk of data loss and time-consuming searches increased. AUVESY-MDT’s version control software was introduced to improve data management, streamline maintenance and documentation, and support use across manufacturing, building technology, and quality assurance.

With AUVESY-MDT’s software, Stihl centralized archiving and version control for about 3,000 pieces of equipment and 7,600 software components, with more than 46,000 versions stored in less than 1.5 GB of server space. The solution provided differentiated access rights, quick access to current and previous versions, and easier comparison of changes, reducing downtime and improving flexibility, traceability, and overall productivity.
