A Automic Case Study
Silentnight, the UK’s largest bed manufacturer, was consolidating operations from three sites onto a single JD Edwards EnterpriseOne instance but was hampered by an aging DEC Alpha-based scheduler and heavy overnight transaction volumes. Dependent jobs and built-in time lags caused batch windows to overrun, slowed response times and increased manual intervention, so the company needed centralized, dynamic scheduling and automation to meet tight manufacturing and distribution SLAs.
Silentnight deployed the Automic workload automation platform to orchestrate JD Edwards and other critical systems, using validated interfaces, dynamic scheduling, object-oriented job grouping and automated alerts. The result: overnight processing compressed to fit the window (saving 2½–3 hours nightly), end-to-end process visibility, fewer manual checks, improved reporting accuracy and greater IT and business flexibility to meet service targets.
