Wall-to-wall Automation 360 saves Newcastle Hospitals 7,000 hours annually, improving staff work/life balance

Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a HIMSS Stage 6–accredited teaching trust with about 16,000 staff and nearly 1.8 million patient contacts a year, sought to reduce repetitive administrative work after the pandemic to improve staff work/life balance and free time for patient care.

The Trust deployed Automation 360 across HR, Occupational Health, the Cancer Information Centre and Appointment Booking, trimming the appraisal task to one minute (saving 15 minutes per employee) and automating vaccination, referrals and other workflows. Since the first bot in March 2020 the programme has delivered a direct saving of 15,000 hours overall and now saves about 7,000 hours annually (4,000 from appraisals, 780 from the cancer-referral bot, and 700 in two months from the NIVS vaccination bot that entered over 11,000 records), freeing staff to focus on higher-value care and enabling further RPA expansion.
