St. James’s Place, a FTSE 100 wealth manager overseeing $113 billion in client funds, needed to boost case volumes and operational efficiency across investments, pensions and partner services. To support year‑on‑year growth without adding headcount, the firm piloted RPA to run alongside human teams, letting business users manage bots to handle routine, high‑volume work.
The pilot automated the critical year‑end calculation for pensions, using OCR and data‑extraction tools to handle varied partner documents so advisors could review many more cases. Results included ~63 minutes saved per case, 85–90% of cases checked by bots, and an anticipated processing uplift toward 100% capacity (vs ~20% today). Multiple processes are now live, a centralized robotics team and CoE are in place, and a pipeline for broader automation — including cognitive bots — is underway.
