Merck Life Science, which provides tools and services for research and product development, faced a complex regulatory burden across clinical, manufacturing, and quality records. Without a harmonized order-screening process, the large volume of orders and local licensing rules caused delays in order release and material processing that disrupted the supply chain.

To address this, Merck partnered with Automation Anywhere to deploy robotic process automation across 14 countries and 64 processes—using 17 bots to automate regulatory checks, document management, trade compliance, supply chain, and customer service workflows. The automation saved about 121,000 hours per year, automated 14 complex SAP systems, improved compliance tracking and reporting, earned industry recognition, and freed staff to focus on higher-value work and faster time-to-market.
