Eu-based Pensions Provider PGGM Realizes Significant Efficiency Gains With Automation

PGGM is a cooperative Dutch pension service provider managing EUR 238 billion for 2.8 million healthcare workers, employers and retirees. Facing high volumes of manual, process-specific pension administration (policy changes, fund transfers) built on proprietary in‑house systems — and an IT backlog that limited automation exploration — the business needed a user‑friendly, cost‑effective way to speed up operations and reduce manual effort.

PGGM created a dedicated cross‑department automation team, used process mining to prioritize simple, structured processes, and implemented Automation Anywhere to build bots in‑house. Over 10 months they automated 27 processes (pension administration, changes, fund transfers), processed 119,956 tasks and saved 19,466 hours, delivering faster service, clear cost savings and a roadmap to expand automation and explore AI.
