Skyscraper Builders Rise to a Supertall Challenge in Tianjin

China Construction Eighth Engineering Division (CCEED) faced the challenge of designing and building the 103‑story, 530‑meter Tianjin Chow Tai Fook Financial Center — a complex, mixed‑use supertall with twisting, curved structural geometry, over 100 MEP system types, and a goal of LEED Gold certification. To manage the scale and precision demands, CCEED turned to Autodesk’s BIM and manufacturing toolset, including Revit, Inventor, ReCap, Navisworks, and AutoCAD, to move from disconnected files and processes to an industrialized, model‑based workflow.

Using Autodesk software, CCEED produced 1,000 BIM models with 185,000 components, generated 40,000 fabrication drawings, drove CNC production from Inventor models, and verified parts with 3D scans via ReCap before site installation; they also used an EBIM cloud platform to update models in real time and QR tags to track components. The Autodesk‑enabled approach improved assembly accuracy, reduced construction waste, supported LEED Gold objectives, produced an LOD 500 as‑built model for handover, and helped the project earn the 2017 Autodesk AEC Excellence Award, setting a new standard for future supertalls.
