Case Study: Ready At Dawn achieves movie-quality, real-time cinematic visuals with Autodesk

A Autodesk Case Study

Preview of the Ready At Dawn Case Study

Ready At Dawn - Customer Case Study

Ready At Dawn, led by co‑founder Ru Weerasuriya, set out to make The Order: 1886 feel like you were “playing a movie,” but faced the technical challenge of eliminating the jarring transition between prerendered cinematics and gameplay while pushing the PS4 to its limits. To achieve that goal the team needed advanced motion capture, cutting‑edge character animation, complex soft‑body physics, and a unified pipeline for artists and engineers — integrating Autodesk tools into their workflow.

Using Autodesk Maya as the backbone, Ready At Dawn built proprietary tools for visual effects, 2D/3D modeling and scripting on top of Maya to create a common game‑making platform that promoted fluid collaboration and platform flexibility. The Autodesk‑based workflow enabled real‑time, high‑fidelity rendering across cinematics and gameplay — materials modeled from real fabrics, bespoke camera lenses, lighting and shader systems — delivering the immersive, movie‑quality look the team wanted and allowing them to fully exploit the PS4’s capabilities.
