Mexico City start-up disrupts medical-implant manufacturing

Granta, a Mexico City medical‑device startup founded by Carlos Monroy and Martin Carcafio, needed to design and manufacture patient‑specific skull implants with sub‑millimeter accuracy, biocompatible materials and strict regulatory compliance. To move from CT scans to surgical‑ready parts, Granta relied on Autodesk tools — including Netfabb, Inventor, Fusion 360, PowerMill and ReCap — and digital‑fabrication workflows enabled by Autodesk software.

Using Autodesk’s toolchain, Granta converted CT data to point clouds, iterated precise implant designs in Inventor and Fusion 360, prepared files with Netfabb, milled PEEK implants with PowerMill and validated fit with ReCap; the result was a perfect‑fit implant that cut cranioplasty time from typically six+ hours to under three hours, allowed fixation in minutes, and has benefited at least five patients (Adriana plus four more) with additional cases in development. Autodesk’s solutions helped Granta deliver reproducible, regulatory‑ready custom implants, improving surgical outcomes and scaling their manufacturing.
