Making Architectural Dreams a Reality Through Design-Assist

Gate Precast, one of the largest U.S. producers of precast architectural and structural concrete, needed a way to collaborate earlier with architects and engineers so complex, sculptural designs could be built cost‑effectively. The company adopted a design‑assist model and built up an in‑house engineering and modeling team that relies on Autodesk tools—specifically Autodesk Revit—to create coordinated BIM models, detect clashes, and make meaningful contributions during conceptual and schematic phases.

Using Autodesk Revit to support design‑assist, Gate Precast’s teams moved detailing forward, found and resolved conflicts before fabrication, and simplified production through modular molding strategies (using a dozen interchangeable molds instead of hundreds) to create a 350‑panel façade. The Autodesk‑enabled workflow cut design and construction timelines by as much as 24 weeks, reduced change orders and costs, produced award‑winning work like the Perot Museum, and has helped Gate secure dozens more design‑assist projects.
