Lighting designer uses AutoCAD to help cast light on Eid holiday stage production in Kuwait

Curiome, led by Australian lighting designer Luke Bonner, was hired to design lighting for Zain Play, a high‑profile Eid stage production in Kuwait with a multinational team and complex, moving set pieces. The challenge was to create precise, collision‑free lighting plans that coordinated with architects, set designers, technicians, and stage managers under tight timelines and high audience expectations for a Broadway‑level experience. To meet these demands Bonner relied on Autodesk’s AutoCAD to translate scenic CAD files into a workable lighting design.

Using Autodesk AutoCAD, Bonner produced a 95% complete lighting plan before travel, added control data (IDs and addresses) for faster rigging, and enabled collaborative editing across disciplines. The result: a two‑day hang and about four to five days of programming around rehearsals, fewer on‑site errors, and a repeatable workflow using blocks and custom LISP automation. Today Zain Play runs annually and recently reached a record 31 sold‑out shows in a ~1,250‑seat theater, demonstrating the measurable operational and production impact Autodesk helped deliver.
