How to bring a classic motorcycle design back to life

KISKA, the international design firm behind KTM and Husqvarna styling, was asked to revive the iconic 1950s Silverpilen and create new street-bike models that would appeal to both seasoned riders and a new, urban audience. To turn emotional pencil sketches into producible forms, KISKA used Autodesk tools—most notably Autodesk Alias for 2D-to-3D surfacing—along with CAD-to-CAM workflows, clay milling and VR visualization.

By integrating Autodesk software into its design and prototyping process, KISKA moved quickly from sketch to full-size milled prototypes, high‑resolution scans and VR review to deliver the SVARTPILEN and VITPILEN. The result: lightweight, modern motorcycles (each under 350 lb) that broadened Husqvarna’s appeal, accelerated validation and manufacturing readiness, and helped reposition the brand as a lifestyle choice for both millennials and experienced riders—outcomes enabled by Autodesk’s digital-surfacing and visualization capabilities.
