How Phillips Exeter Academy is leveraging digital twin technology

Phillips Exeter Academy, a historic school in New Hampshire, was struggling with a fragmented facilities management workflow across both new and 200-year-old buildings. The team spent too much time searching paper plans, spreadsheets, and PDFs for critical asset information, making maintenance and operations inefficient. Autodesk’s digital twin platform, Autodesk Tandem, was used to help solve this challenge.

Autodesk and Windover Construction delivered a data-rich digital twin for the academy’s new dormitory, giving the facilities team a 3D model with attached maintenance data, manuals, warranties, serial numbers, and system information. The result was faster access to asset documentation, easier tracing of pipelines and shutoffs, and quicker repairs to restore systems to operating standards. Phillips Exeter Academy also plans to extend the approach across more buildings and eventually integrate IoT sensors for predictive maintenance.
