How Narromine Shire used drones, laser scanning and Autodesk solutions to transform infrastructure management with high accuracy and cost savings

Narromine Shire Council, a local government authority in New South Wales, Australia, needed a better way to manage infrastructure data for buildings, bridges, culverts, and other assets. Working with Autodesk, the council set out to fill gaps in as-built information, improve asset records, and reduce the cost of third-party inspections and investigations, especially where existing dimensions and documentation were incomplete or unavailable.

Autodesk’s Recap Pro and Revit, used alongside drones and laser scanning, enabled the council to capture, process, and model assets in 3D with high accuracy. The results improved planning, tendering, and asset management, while reducing consultant work and eliminating some subcontractor needs. Narromine Shire Council reported time savings and cost savings of up to 30%, with more precise data helping lower errors and support better project decisions.
